Landscape Architecture

GHD’s search for the best ideas is driven by a strong belief that the design profession can make a difference to people in their homes, work or leisure.

The GHD landscape architecture team works to create environments that inspire. We use our comprehensive knowledge of materials and construction techniques balanced against market rigours to develop ideas into exemplary projects that are recognisable both for their practicality and creativity.

Our approach to landscape design considers the particular qualities of a site, our client's needs and the financial resources available for the implementation and subsequent maintenance of the project. Whether providing creative input at the beginning of a project or providing detailed documentation towards final construction, GHD has extensive experience in all scales of landscape architecture, from pocket parks through to large-scale urban design projects. We work towards a total outcome that innovatively combines qualities of resolution, pleasure and utility.

Our services draw on local and international integrated teams to deliver:

  • Landscape architecture
  • Master planning and urban design
  • Environmental planning and design
  • Landscape and visual impact analysis and assessment
  • Ecosystem services including water sensitive urban design
  • Transport and water infrastructure design
  • Streetscape and urban revitalisation

GHD’s environment management system (EMS) aims to protect the environment from the potential impacts that may result from our office activities and from the projects we deliver. Our own EMS is accredited to International Standard ISO 14001 by NATA Certification Services International (NCSI). GHD also operates under a Practice Quality Management System that is certified to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008.

Three adjoining development sites on the outskirts of Geelong, Victoria, are being revitalised to facilitate a major residential based redevelopment comprising in excess of 1950 residential lots. The combined sites consist of the former Geelong Cement Works, a former bluestone quarry and non-viable rural land. When combined, the three sites will form a new residential community covering more than 200ha and located just 4km from the City of Geelong's CBD.

Working collaboratively, GHD has been commissioned by two clients, the Moltoni Corporation and the Riverlee Corporation, to effect the re-zoning for all three properties. This is being done on an integrated basis with sustainable development principles at the core of the decision-making process. Tasks have included undertaking specialist engineering and environmental studies, as well as the preparation of amendment and master plan documentation, which seeks to restore a degraded waterway.
