Northern Arizona University’s Pine Ridge Village provides
housing for approximately 600 undergraduates. The project was
developed as an innovative design-build-operate partnership with
Ambling West.
The site has nearly 100 feet of vertical
relief. The biggest design challenge was developing a grading
and drainage plan that maintained access at key locations, limited
earthwork, minimised scarring of the hillside and limited erosion
from stormwater runoff. GHD worked closely with the landscape
architect to meet these design challenges and still maintain the
character of the site. Tasks entailed working around
existing Ponderosa trees and minimising the visual impact of
retaining walls.
