Kraft Cheese Manufacturing Facility Extension

GHD was the lead designer and construction manager for the development of an existing food processing factory at Suttontown, Mount Gambier. The works included an extension to an existing chiller, and construction of a new pasteuriser building and covered loading/unloading bay.

GHD’s involvement included the design of all architectural, civil structural and building services for the new facilities. GHD also acted as construction manager for the majority of the new works.

The chiller extension, which comprised the majority of the works, was a steel portal framed clad with sandwich panels supported on a post-tensioned suspended ground floor slab over an undercroft area. Due to the complex ground conditions, with the site being underlain by limestone containing large caverns, bored piles were adopted for the foundations.
