Doha Airport Terminal Extension

Qatar Airways at Doha Airport needed a two-storey extension to the existing departures terminal. Building on previous experience gained from similar project work, GHD provided architectural and engineering design services, as well as contract administration and project management services.

The extension was designed and constructed on a fast-track basis, which enabled its completion within just six months. The new section has given Qatar Airways additional gate boarding lounges, a first class lounge and cafeteria, increased check-in area capacity and additional baggage handling systems.

Innovative solutions characterised this project with the adoption of a number of initiatives to meet the deadline. This included working closely with the contractor to procure equipment and materials during the schematic designs and specifying short bored piles and post tensioned floor slabs all of which contributed to a short construction period.

Tight budgets and constantly rising expectations to deliver a safer, faster and enhanced service means the world’s aviation industry is examining every step of an asset’s life and its ability to generate revenue, with minimal impact on the environment.

Whether your vision is to create access and facilities to a new location, increase capacity and movement efficiency for a hard working local or international hub, enable a fly-in, fly-out workforce or improve commercial viability of diverse non-aviation investments, explore resourceful options to limit cost, aircraft noise and carbon emissions with GHD.

Transportation

Economic and population growth, greater urbanisation and increased mobility are boosting demand for new infrastructure and straining the capacity and effectiveness of existing infrastructure. Single mode approaches are no longer viable as governments and stakeholders recognise the need for multi-modal solutions across the whole supply chain.

Across the whole transport spectrum of aviation, marine, roads and highways, rail and transportation and logistics, our team provides integrated transport services throughout the project lifecycle from initial policy, transport economics and business case advice, through concept, procurement, detailed design and construction to operations, maintenance and asset management.
