Christchurch Bus Priority Lanes

GHD have been commissioned to design and construct bus priority lanes in the Christchurch CBD in order to alleviate the escalating congestion problem.      

GHD is in the initial design stage for the first of three bus priority lanes, along the Columbo Street corridor. The project involves the widening of this main arterial allowing for dedicated and on-peak-only bus lanes for travel into and away from the CBD. The lanes will extend for approximately 3.5 kilometres. Other design features include bus stop relocation, B-signals, PTIPS, cycle lanes and changes to roadside parking allowances.

And like other similarly comprehensive solutions from GHD, the bus lanes will not only improve the roading network but will also, through reduced congestion, contribute positively to the local environment and economy.
