A New Busway for Brisbane

Queensland Transport engaged GHD to undertake a pre-feasibility investigation into the need, scope and likely issues involved with a proposal for the busway in the locality of the Gympie Road corridor. This corridor is a major arterial road that serves as both a regional linkage and a key component in the central northside district road network.

A range of previous studies, including the Corridor Selection Report, identified the need for a northern busway to provide a new public transport line haul (high quality, high frequency) route to support existing and future north side suburban services.

GHD identified a potential busway solution for incorporation into the established urban setting and investigated pre-feasibility in terms of a range of technical issues including land use forecasts, bus planning needs, traffic and public transport modeling, intersection analysis, park-and-ride needs, engineering (busway design, preliminary hydrology, preliminary geotechnical, preliminary structural assessment, constructability), preliminary environmental investigations, public utility plant review, preliminary cost  estimates and proposed busway staging.

Today's built environment presents complex challenges to society and the design professionals who shape it. No longer can projects be addressed in simple terms, as the community demands performance in every aspect of the development cycle. GHD is committed to delivering innovative projects that integrate social, cultural, economic and political values into sustainable design solutions. GHD's urban planners, architects, landscape architects, environmental scientists, building engineers, traffic and civil engineers are some of the in-house design professionals who form our powerful multi-disciplinary project teams.

Transportation

Economic and population growth, greater urbanisation and increased mobility are boosting demand for new infrastructure and straining the capacity and effectiveness of existing infrastructure. Single mode approaches are no longer viable as governments and stakeholders recognise the need for multi-modal solutions across the whole supply chain.

Across the whole transport spectrum of aviation, marine, roads and highways, rail and transportation and logistics, our team provides integrated transport services throughout the project lifecycle from initial policy, transport economics and business case advice, through concept, procurement, detailed design and construction to operations, maintenance and asset management.
