Asset Management Improvement Program

GHD is assisting Merseyrail, the UK urban train operator for Liverpool and surrounding areas, with a major business change program to update the management systems for its fleet.

The Asset Management Improvement Program (AMI P) is being delivered in partnership with Merseyrail. It follows an asset management maturity assessment undertaken in 2008 using GHD’s proprietary Total Enterprise Asset Management Quality Framework (TEAM QF) assessment model. The assessment process is aligned to BSI PAS 55 (a publicly available asset management specification) and provided Merseyrail with a roadmap for achieving its strategic asset management objectives for fleet reliability, availability and efficiency set out in its asset management strategy published in 2007.

Environmental Appraisal for Transport for London

In December 2007 Colin Buchanan was commissioned by Transport for London (TfL) to undertake a Scheme Identification Study for Henly’s Corner, the signal-controlled junction of the A406 North Circular and the A598 (Regents Park and Finchley roads) in the London borough of Barnet.  At present this signalised junction is heavily congested during the peak hours and has a history of serious and fatal accidents.

Colin Buchanan commissioned GHD to undertake a high level non-statutory Environmental Appraisal (EA) of eight scheme options that were being developed for Henly’s Corner.  The primary purpose of the EA was to evaluate to the fullest extent possible the likely environmental performance of the eight junction improvement options, both in order to inform the selection process and facilitate a TfL determination as to whether a formal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was required for the preferred scheme.

UK rail footprint assessment

GHD partnered with CenSA on UK railways greenhouse gas emissions measurement.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) management is an essential part of any organisation’s sustainability and corporate responsibility agenda. In December 2008, the United Kingdom (UK) made a commitment to reduce its national carbon dioxide emissions, since upgraded to a reduction of at least 34 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050, in comparison to 1990 levels. In anticipation of tough regulatory and other policy drivers, the rail sector sought to better understand its contribution to the national GHG footprint and the ways in which this can be reduced.
