GHD was established in Melbourne in 1928 by one of the company’s founders, Gordon Gutteridge. Our clients benefit from our local knowledge and experience coupled with the ability to draw on global skills and resources.

Victorian Desalination Plant

GHD has been engaged to provide a wide range of engineering, planning and environmental advice to the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment for the proposed $3.1 billion Victorian Desalination Plant.

The project includes a desalination plant near Wonthaggi, transfer pipeline to Melbourne, marine tunnels for the extraction of seawater and return of concentrate to the ocean, and a power supply for the plant.

Technical and Engineering advisory services being provided by GHD, Fichtner GmbH of Germany and HydroTas include a range of studies to assess land-side and marine geotechnical conditions, as well as water quality sampling, monitoring and testing. These will allow preliminary designs to be completed as part of a final Business Case, and inform environmental studies and technical performance requirements.

EastLink

The Eastlink Project is integral to the state’s program for a seamless transport network. Construction of the $1.8 billion freeway commenced in 2004 and was completed in 2008. GHD provided services in roads/highways engineering, structural engineering and tunnelling.

The project comprised over 40 kilometres of freeway standard road, 1.5 kilometres of twin tunnels, 16 grade separated interchanges, over 95 separate bridges, traffic control equipment and intelligent transport systems, tolling systems and road furniture, urban design elements and landscaping.

Phil Duthie

Phil is the State Manager for GHD in Victoria. The Victorian practice employs over 800 people in the sectors of water, environment, transport, energy and resources, and property and buildings.

Phil has had broad experience in consulting and previously managed teams in civil infrastructure, property and buildings and environment. Prior to consulting Phil’s background was in project and construction management.
