Replacement Aerodrome Study for the Caloundra and Caboolture Aerodromes

GHD was commissioned to undertake a study to identify the most suitable alternative site to replace the Caloundra and Caboolture Aerodromes (Queensland, Australia) taking account of aviation, operational, economic, environmental, land use, social, property and infrastructure considerations.

The project utilised GHD’s InDeGO method, a technique that combines Multi-Criteria Assessment (MCA) approaches with desktop-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis to optimise site selection against the range of study objectives.

Woodford Correctional Centre

Use of the sewer to dispose of contraband during security searches is not possible at the high-security Woodford Correctional Centre in southern Queensland. GHD developed a vacuum sewer system that enables operators to isolate any block prior to security searches.

The system was selected because it was easier and more cost-efficient to install, as the site is predominantly hard rock. It also offered ecologically-sustainable development principles, because it reduced water usage.

Sunshine Motorway Upgrade Sippy Downs

In 2006, the Queensland Department of Main Roads appointed GHD as Project Manager of the $66 million upgrade of the Sunshine Motorway at Sippy Downs on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The upgrade provided a vital piece of infrastructure for a thriving residential, business and academic community.

GHD was engaged by the Botanical Food Company to provide design, documentation and construction services for its new Greenfield herb processing facility for the Gourmet Garden range.

Gourmet Garden is a leading manufacturer of packaged fresh chopped herbs and spices. The company is based in Australia and exports to local and international markets.

Sunshine Coast Industrial Park

The Sunshine Coast Industrial Park is the largest land subdivision ever carried out by the Queensland state governement. The park sits on 215ha and comprises 73 allotments, with 70 hectares retained as open space or as a conservation area.

GHD was engaged by the Queensland Department of Infrastructure and Planning to provide design, construction contract management and project services, and has been involved from the early planning stage through to project completion.

St Patricks College Gympie Building

GHD has worked closely with St Patrick's College Gympie to build a new science and languages building including classrooms and landscaping.

St Patrick's College is located in Gympie on the top of Calton Hill. Building on the relationship with the college and their graphics staff, GHD was able to assist with providing support to the school with computers and graphics training, also providing St Patrick's College with a school traineeship program. GHD was involved with the design development, contract documentation, contract administration, architectural design and landscaping projects in relation to the science building. The classrooms were completed in July 2010, in time for Semester Three.

Ian Brodie

Ian has overall responsibility for the regional offices in GHD's South Queensland Operating Centre (Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Gympie, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg). Ian's key experience areas are in client management, project definition, direction and delivery, civil infrastructure, transportation and urban development. He has been with GHD for over 15 years and has worked in NSW, Northern Territory, ACT and Queensland.

Bruce Johnson

Bruce has over 30 years’ experience in the planning and design of rural, urban and highway projects in Queensland. As a project manager of departmental projects, Bruce has had experience in public consultation, project programming and design coordination, liaising with departmental officers, sub-consultants, local authorities, service authorities, cultural heritage and environmental groups.
