Innovation has been a hallmark of GHD’s 80-year history as a professional services company, operating in the markets of Energy, Water, Transportation, Property & Buildings and Environment.

We recognised however, that as a growing global business with rapid technological changes and issues such as climate change facing the world, we needed to adopt a more structured approach to generating, collaborating and acting on great ideas.

Innovations is GHD’s award winning innovation program that has been designed to harness the creativity and knowledge of our people and partners across the world.

Innovations integrates with our business and as a result, the objectives and key outcomes align and support the three main focus points of our corporate strategy - clients, people and performance.

Types of Ideas

Innovations is open to all of GHD’s employees and encourages ideas that help our clients’ businesses and market sectors, as well as ideas that improve our internal processes, ensuring GHD efficiently and effectively serves its clients.

Multi-stage process

Innovations provides a multi stage process for idea development including opportunity/challenge definition, idea submission, evaluation and business case preparation through to solution development and delivery. A key element of the process is a fair and transparent review process that identifies those ideas that have the greatest potential to generate value.

People and Collaboration

The success of Innovations is based upon facilitating collaboration between our people across the globe. Working together across disciplines, industries, markets and continents enables us to see things from a fresh perspective as well as successfully transfer knowledge, skills and experience throughout our network.

GHD’s Innovation team

Trained Innovation Champions and Coaches are located in all of GHD's operating centres and an independent Innovation Advisory Group reviews ideas and provides feedback to all idea generators. The Group Innovation Team manages the program as well as providing innovation consulting services to our clients and business partners.

Technology to support the innovation process

We have designed and implemented the innovation zone, a technology platform that connects all our people regardless of location. The zone enables staff to submit, collaborate and vote on ideas as well as providing the Innovation team with a valuable tool to manage ideas from submission through to delivery.
